Letterpress

Letterpress printing, fine relief printing.

What is letterpress printing?

Letterpress printing is a form of relief printing, the type or image is placed on a raised surface like a stamp and pressed onto the material, creating an indented finish.

THE PROCESS

CREATING THE FINISH

Letterpress printing, also known as relief printing and typographic printing is created by the repeated direct impression of an inked, raised surface against a paper.

The digital design is created into a polymer plate, with the design elements raised. The plate is then locked into the press.

Ink is mixed by hand, created to match the specific colours needed against a Pantone reference.

Printing begins on half the sheet, the heidelberg lifts the sheet, presses against the inked plate and then places it on the out tray to dry. Once completed, the paper is turned and printed on the other side.
